So, what IS Art Psychotherapy?

Art Therapy is a type of psychotherapy which offers an opportunity to use a variety of art materials within a safe environment and supported by a qualified art psychotherapist. There is no need to have any previous experience in art, as the therapist is with you and may guide you until you feel comfortable using the materials. The images you produce are yours alone and will only be used to help you and the therapist reflect on thoughts and feelings which may be intense or painful. The process can help access emotions and conflicts which may be suppressed. Art Therapy may be one-to-one with the therapist or in a small group. There is always an initial assessment with the therapist discussing general health and lifestyle details before any sessions commence.

Who can use art therapy?
Just about everyone! People who are depressed. People with other mental health problems. People who are generally stressed and overworked. Managers and staff under pressure. Young people who have difficulty conforming in school. Adults and children who have personal problems at home. People who have suffered trauma, abuse or violence. People who are struggling with addictions. People with learning difficulties. People with severe or terminal illness and the families of those people. People who are bereaved. People who feel they would just like the opportunity to explore issues within themselves.
